15 members of our Scout troop successfully completed the Chiltern 20 Challenge, the annual navigation competition organised by Greater London North Scouts. Our Scouts walked in four teams – out of an incredible 100 teams in the whole event.

Five Scouts from 8th Holborn joined members of four other local troops for the annual North London Scout District sailing day at ESSA in the Lea Valley.

At the end of September 20 of our Cub Scouts braved the autumnal weather for a weekend’s camp at Well End in Hertfordshire. The Cubs explored the woodlands, built fires, cooked dinner and played games.

In June, 14 members of our Scout troop spent a weekend hiking in the New Forest to (attempt to) gain their Expedition Challenge. The weekend was organised by Wild Wolf ESU in association with a number of Scout troops in our district.

Over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, more than 80 members of 8th Holborn joined the rest of North London Scout District for our District Camp which takes place in alternate years. The camp was held at Tolmers in Hertfordshire and included hiking, canoeing, a silent disco, pioneering and much more besides.

For this year’s Cycle Camp, eight members of the troop cycled from Coram’s Fields to the North Downs, camping at Roverdene at Chaldon, then returning to London. The outward route was via Greenwich and the Waterlink Way, and the return route was via the Wandle Trail.

8th Holborn once again organised a paddle sports camp on the Thames at Longridge for members of North London Scout District. Nine of our own Scouts joined 51 Scouts from eight other troops for canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and bellboating.

The Scout Troop started the year with 23 members taking part in Wintercamp at Gilwell Park over the second weekend in January.

On Remembrance Sunday we once again joined the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers at their memorial in Holborn. This year we remember especially the 10 young men associated with Scouting in Holborn who are named on the Scout Association’s World War I roll of honour:

8th Holborn entered a record-breaking six teams into the largest ever Chiltern 20 Challenge hike on Saturday 13 October. 25 bleary-eyed Scouts and five leaders met at Baker Street Station at 5.45am to make the journey to Great Missenden to join the competition which is run by Greater London North Scouts and this year attracted…
